Things To Do
on Orcas Island
Be sure to take advantage of all
the island has to offer.
It's not a tourist destination for nothing!
Sightseeing, Beaches Etc.:
Viewing Tower on Mount Constitution - Moran State
Park. Drive to the top of the mountain and get a panoramic view
of the islands from 2,400 feet!
Cascade Lake - Located at the entrance to Moran State
Park, this lake is particularly great for families. There is a
child swimming area, playground, canoes and paddleboats for
rent, trails, and good fishing spots.
Eastsound Waterfront Park - Picnic
at the waterfront park in the town of Eastsound. At low tide, a
sand bridge will link the beach to Indian Island in the middle
of the bay - which makes for good exploring and sea life
viewing.
North Beach - A sand and cobble
beach on the north shore. To access, head out of Eastsound on
"North Beach Rd." and drive to the end! Heron, otters and other
sea life are commonly seen here.
Obstruction Pass State Park - This secluded cobble
beach requires a 1/2 mile walk from the parking area at
Obstruction Pass State Park on the east side of the island, but
it's worth it, if you like collecting beach stones!
The
Orcas Island Country Golf Club is located at the
north end of Crow Valley, and offers a public, regulation 9-hole
course.
Got Kids? They might enjoy a trip to the
Funhouse science center, or the
world-class
Skate Park at Buck Park in
Eastsound. Do be aware that the Skate Park is best enjoyed by
advanced skaters - take care!!
Hiking:
Moran State Park offers a
wide variety of trails, from easy trips to Cascade Falls, and
around Mountain Lake, to harder climbs starting at Cascade or
Mountain Lake to Twin Lakes, Little Summit, Cold Springs, or the
Summit itself! (get
trail maps)
Turtleback Mountain is a short and
steep climb with amazing panoramic views all the way. We
recommend the south trail. (directions
& map)
Kayaking, Biking, Whale Watching etc.:
Shearwater
Sea Kayak Tours and
Orcas Outdoors offer sea kayaking tours.
Lieber Haven Resort
rents kayaks by the half-hour, or day.
Rent a bike from
Wildlife Cycles in Eastsound. There are several trails in
Moran State Park that should be open to mountain bikers, or you
can just explore the rest of the island!
Whale Watching tours are offered by
Orcas Island Eclipse
Charters and
Deer Harbor Charters. If you travel to
Lime Kiln State Park on San Juan Island, you might also spot
some Orca Whales from shore!
Shopping & Art Galleries:
Eastsound offers a wide variety of
gift shops, jewelers, bookstores and galleries, all of which are
within a few blocks of one another. There is also a supermarket,
movie theater (playing 3 month old movies!), and post office in
town. (map)
The
Orcas Island Farmers' Market
takes place in the village square in downtown Eastsound every
Saturday from 10am to 3pm.
Olga Artworks, located
on the east side of the island is Orcas' largest showcase of
island artisans' work, and is also home to the delicious Cafe
Olga.
Visit one of the island's many ceramic galleries -
Orcas Island Pottery, and
Crow
Valley Pottery are excellent, and the
Right Place Pottery offers
do-it-yourself pottery making and glazing if you'll be staying a
few days.
Find more shops on the
Orcas Island Chamber of Commerce
